About Me
Heathen mystic. Dreamer. Declarer of dominion. Lover of rich juicy starry beauty. Writer of Sit At My Table. Founder of The Birth Story Project. Short Version... I trained as a life coach with Dr. Martha Beck, author of Expecting Adam and monthly columnist at O, the Oprah Magazine, and was certified as a Martha Beck Life Coach in November of 2009. I had been working as an actress and voice-over artist in Tokyo, and while I loved it, I felt pulled to connect with the world in a deeper way. I quickly realized that I'd been 'coaching' my whole life-- people had always come to me with their secrets-- but I had never had anything to offer them other than empathy. Now I have some amazing tools and techniques to help my clients connect with their own truth and live from their souls. These days I coach people all around the world, I am writing a memoir, and I still talk into microphones on a regular basis because it is so dang fun...and because I like the sound of my own voice. Obviously. Update: I was living in Tokyo during the March 2011 earthquake. Shortly after that, I moved with my daughter to Portland, OR. I've had ample opportunity to put all my self-coaching skills to use during this transition, but we are flourishing, and are so happy to be in this green, gentle place. You can get my latest news at my blog or in my monthly missive, RichJuicyStarryBeauty. Long Version... I live in Tokyo, but I was born in Indianapolis to a pair of wholesome Jesus-is-love Kentucky Christians. We moved when I was five to Japan, where I attended eight different schools and learned to speak Japanese like a native. (A twelve-year-old native.) My senior year in high school, I developed a passionate interest in Bryn Mawr College. When some of my missionary teachers warned me that it would be a dangerous place, filled to the brim with witches, lesbians, and-- worst of all-- feminists, I promptly enrolled in a high glee. Lo these many years later, I have put that excellent education to wonderful use in the following jobs: flower shop girl, cleaning lady, bookstore clerk, and unemployed beatnik. I've also held some jobs that were slightly more respectable: I've worked at nonprofits, international consulting and PR firms, and as a voice-over artist. I am living it up sixteen floors up in the Tokyo sky. I share a view of Saitama, deliciously bad TV, and a bewitching daughter with my favorite film director and vampire killer, Ryan Skelton. As a coach, I'm like a midwife: you do the hard labor and you go home with the baby, but I'm there to keep things moving and safe. I like to coach renegades, who I define as anyone who is ready to get free. I don't like cages. I have come to believe that the most powerful cages are in our own minds, and we are always capable of dismantling them. I'm not afraid of your thorniest problems, your most embarrassing and grandiose dreams, or your silliest fears. I'll be honest with you but I'll be as kind as I can be. I'll also try not to swear too much if you don't like it, but you might have to keep reminding me. I am a total heathen but also a mystic. I have been allergic to every religion I've ever tried, but I believe that we are living and breathing cradled in love. I can actually write that without squirming because I am, literally, shameless. I left my shame by the roadside. It smelled bad. I can help you dump your baggage, too, so that you are free: free to hear your deepest yearnings and step into the self you always thought you might have been, if only. I'll roll my eyes and call bullshit on 99% of self-help shallowness, but I will also tell you that I believe this to be true: your deepest pain can be transformed into your greatest joy, your most potent power, and your most magnificent destiny. I have been to hell and back, and truly, the hilarity on this side is worth the journey. I am an INFP, a QuickStart FactFinder, and I will always choose intuition over logic. So I ground myself with routines and systems, country music, and motherhood. Trust me, they keep me pretty well tethered to earth. I blog daily at www.SitAtMyTable.com and I'd love to have you sit with me any old time. | More:日本語
